OCR scanned PDFs

Read scanned PDF pages without a text layer in your browser and copy the text.

When a scanned document contains only page images, the tool renders each page and runs OCR. This page starts in printed text mode; select the languages used by your document.

Enter only the pages you need in the range field. Speed and memory use depend on page dimensions, contents and your device. Try smaller ranges for large documents.

Stains, shadows, tilt and small text can interfere with recognition. Compare and correct the result. Copy it or save as TXT; the app does not generate searchable PDF files.

How to use

  1. Add the scanned PDF and enter the pages you need.
  2. Check printed text mode and document languages, then extract.
  3. Review missing text and reading order, then copy or save as TXT.

What to check

If a scanned PDF already has a text layer, that layer is extracted directly. There is no force-OCR option even if the existing layer is incorrect.

Frequently asked questions

Does it save a searchable PDF?

No. It provides text copying and TXT export. It does not add a new text layer to the PDF.

Can it turn scanned tables into spreadsheets?

It does not reconstruct tables or cells. Complex tables can produce incorrect text and reading order.

What if processing takes a long time?

Try smaller page ranges. Processing time varies with the document and recognition settings, even on the same device.
