Experimental Korean handwriting OCR and its limits
Try experimental Korean line recognition, with limitations for real handwriting and line detection.
This page selects experimental Korean line recognition. Printed OCR first locates Korean lines, then a Korean model reads those crops. If line detection fails, handwriting recognition can fail too.
The Korean model can be tried on single lines and handwriting-style fonts, but accuracy on real human handwriting may be low. Vertical text and tables are not supported. Compare and edit every result; no accuracy percentage is guaranteed.
The Korean model downloads from this site when needed and is stored in your browser. Check the download size in settings before starting. For printed documents, compare printed text mode too. The separate English handwriting model is not intended for Korean handwriting.
How to use
- Add a clear image of Korean text and crop to the relevant area.
- Check the Korean line recognition download size and extract.
- Review missing lines and misread characters, then edit and copy.
What to check
Korean line recognition is experimental. Verify important names, amounts and identifiers against the original, and compare printed OCR results too.
Frequently asked questions
Can it read any Korean handwriting?
No. Accuracy on real handwriting may be low and printed OCR may not locate the lines. Even single-line recognition can fail or omit characters.
Is this the same as English handwriting mode?
No. English handwriting uses Xenova/trocr-small-handwritten. Korean line recognition uses team-lucid/trocr-small-korean.
Does downloading a model send my image to a server?
No. Models and runtime files are downloaded, but images and recognized text are not uploaded. Recognition happens in the browser.
